Daniel J. McCarthy - Glocester
Daniel J. McCarthy, 69, of Pinecrest Drive, Harmony, died Friday, Nov. 6, at Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the husband of Barbara M. (Poirier) McCarthy. They had been married for 46 years. Born in Providence, the only son of the late Daniel J. and Edith (Parenteau) McCarthy, he had lived in Harmony for 35 years, previously living in Bowie, Md. He was a 1958 graduate of LaSalle Academy and 1962 graduate of St. Anselm's College in Manchester, N.H. He had been a policeman for the city of East Providence, an agent for the U.S. Customs Service, a U.S. Secret Service Agent for Hubert Humphrey and Gerald Ford during their presidential campaign, and the senior agent in charge for the Drug Enforcement Administration for the state of Rhode Island. Prior to his assignment in Rhode Island, he was an agent for the Federal Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs working in the greater Baltimore and Washington D.C. areas. He had been a communicant of St. Philip Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree St. Philip Council, a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, FLEOA, FOP, Lodge 46, and the Association of Former Narcotic Agents.
Besides his loving wife he leaves his three sons, Daniel G. McCarthy and his wife Noreen of Kingwood, Texas, Kevin M. McCarthy and his wife Sharon of Shelton, Conn., and Timothy P. McCarthy and his wife Lucie of Redondo Beach, Calif. He also leaves eight grandchildren.
His funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Smithfield. Visitation is Monday from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
