Dorothy M. (Wicklund) Edwards, 92, a resident of North Scituate for 61 years before moving to Smithfield in 2004, died peacefully Monday, April 14, 2008, surrounded by her family at Hebert Nursing Home.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ernest A. Edwards. Born in Providence, she was a devoted daughter of the late Axel L. and Margareta (Fiske) Wicklund. Dorothy was a graduate of Central High School and Katherine Gibbs School in Providence. She was first employed as a secretary at Amica Insurance and later worked briefly at the former Bailey-Shippee Funeral Home, but her full-time attention was given to her family. As a young girl she aspired to a career as a home economics teacher and that passion made her a most loving, creative and generous homemaker. She also was a self-taught seamstress and shared her skills and knowledge by teaching both adults and children, as well as making clothes for her daughters, grandchildren and other extended family members. She loved to sew, bake, braid rugs, make home crafts, play Bridge, travel, entertain and spend time with her family and friends. For many years she enjoyed summer vacations camping with the family in Waterville Valley, N.H., and later Dorothy and Ernie hosted family and friends at their vacation home in Morgan Center, Vt.

Dorothy was a former member and past president of the North Scituate American Legion Post #19 Auxiliary, a past Worthy Advisor and member of Rainbow Alumni. She was a former member of the Scituate Preservation Society, a past president, co-clothing project chair and longtime member of the Early Bird Homemakers of Scituate and was a past director of the Northern Rhode Island Co-Operative Extension board of directors. She was a 4-H Club leader of the Village Lane 4-H Club, past president of the Northern Rhode Island 4-H Leaders Association, a recipient of the RI Outstanding 4-H Leader Award and a member of the Rhode Island 4-H All-Stars Honorary Society. She was an active member of the Hamilton House Senior Center, teaching sewing classes, playing bridge and traveling. She was a 56-year member of the North Scituate Baptist Church serving with many programs, the newsletter committee and the May Breakfast. She also was a member of the Scituate Girls Club and the CF'ers, and was active in many programs at the Village at Waterman Lake.

She leaves two daughters, Sherrill D. Hunnibell of Rehoboth, Mass., and Shirley E. Hutchings and her husband Edwin of North Scituate; three grandchildren, Kylee Hitz and her husband Ciril of Rehoboth, Vanessa Moroney and her husband Ray of Malahide, Ireland, and Sara Hutchings-Schwartz and her husband Lenny of North Scituate; three great-grandchildren, Kira and Cailen Hitz and Aidan Moroney; and many beloved friends and extended family members. She was the sister of the late Esther Garland and Helen Smith and the mother-in-law of the late Kenneth Hunnibell. Dorothy treasured her family and friends and she was especially grateful for her family of loving and supportive caregivers at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island and Hebert Nursing Home.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service Sunday, April 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the North Scituate Baptist Church, 619 West Greenville Road, North Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George St., Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be appreciated. For information and guestbook, visit www.TuckerQuinnFuneralChapel.com
