Francis L. Lanctot - Woonsocket
Francis L. Lanctot, 76, of Mendon Road died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield.He was the husband of Claire (Demers) Lanctot, whom he married Nov. 10, 1956. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late former state Rep. Eugene Lanctot Sr. and Catherine (Toomey) Lanctot. Mr. Lanctot was the mayor of Woonsocket from 1989-1996 and previously served as city councilman from 1971-1987. Additionally, he was a district manager for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company in Woonsocket and Boston and also worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance and Sherwin Williams Paint Store. He attended Woonsocket High School and Bryant College, was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Stadium Theatre Restoration Committee and a board member of the June Rockwell Levy Charitable Foundation.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Marc Lanctot of Newton, Mass., and Neil Lanctot of West Chester, Pa.; three daughters, Catherine Lanctot of Wilmington, Del., Nancy Lanctot of Kingston, Mass, and Diane Lanctot of Weymouth, Mass.; three sisters, Grace Boucher of Woonsocket, Marion Theresa King of Framingham, Mass., and Charlotte Beauchemin of Woonsocket; and six grandchildren, Peter, Elizabeth and Timothy McQuaid, Peter and Amy Andrews and Summer Daley. He was the father of the late Carol McQuaid and brother of the late Earl, Eugene Jr., Raymond and Russell Lanctot and Janet Tripodi.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 1200 Mendon Road, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-6 p.m. in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNS of Greater RI, Hospice Program, 6 Blackstone Valley Place, Suite 515, Lincoln, RI 02865.
