Francis R. Taylor - Smithfield

Francis R. Taylor, 84, of Coolridge Avenue, Smithfield, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Rhode Island Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Evelyn B. (Piccirillo) Taylor. Born in Smithfield, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Rose D. (St. John) Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a firefighter with the Smithfield Fire Department for many years before retiring. He was a communicant of St. Philip Church in Greenville, a permanent member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department, a life member of Smithfield VFW Post #2929, a member of International Association of Firefighters and International Rescue and First Aid Association. He was a Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Lauderdale during World War II and aboard Boat Unit One during the Korean conflict. He leaves his sisters, Loretta McKeon of Glocester, Irene J. Tucker of North Providence, Beverly M. Crisman of Kennebunkport, Maine, Geraldine M. Piccirillo of East Greenwich, Evelyn E. Rich of Duluth, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave., Route 44) Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Philip Church, Greenville, at 9:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Harrisville. Visiting hours are Thursday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Smithfield VFW Post #2929, Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917 would be appreciated.
