Leo A. Gauthier - Cumberland
Leo A. Gauthier, 89, formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Jan. 12 at the Evergreen House Health Center in East Providence after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.He was the husband of Dorothy (Newsham) Gauthier to whom he had been married for 64 years. Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Alfred and Clara (Chartier) Gauthier. He founded Gauthier
Landscaping Service in 1948 and was self-employed for 56 years, retiring in 2004. He was an avid bowler and was president of the Junior Bowlers Association of Rhode Island for many years. During World War II, he served in the Army in Africa and also in Italy, where he had a private audience with Pope Pius XII.
Besides his wife of East Providence he leaves a son, Robert Gauthier and his wife Tami of Cumberland; a daughter, Janice Dorval and her husband Charles of Pawtucket; three sisters, Ora Zabrowski of Vermont and Theresa Engel and Rita Lesko, both of New Jersey; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Ten siblings predeceased him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 151, New York, NY 10018 would be appreciated.
