Rene S. Mondor - Woonsocket
Rene S. Mondor, 93, of Coe Street, Woonsocket, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, with his daughters by his side. He was the husband of the late Sylvia (Menard) Mondor. Born in Quebec, Canada, living most of his life in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Rosario and Palma (Breault) Mondor. He worked 25 years delivering oil for the former Martel Oil Co., in Woonsocket. A communicant of Holy Family Church in Woonsocket, Rene served there as an alter server and Eucharistic Minister. In his retirement he enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as planting and cultivating a large vegetable garden. His family will always remember how Rene had a smile for everyone. He leaves two daughters, Irene A. Roberts of Centerville, Mass., and Suzanne M. McBride of Woonsocket; a brother, Bernard “Ben” Mondor of Warwick; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Robert R. Mondor and the brother of the late Fred and Sylvio Mondor and Annette Laquerre.
His funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at 9 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, South Main Street, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean the Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham, Mass. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert R. Mondor Scholarship Fund, MSC, 800 Logee Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895 or to Children's Hospital Trust/NICU, 1 Autumn Street #731, Boston, MA 02215-5301.
