Born in Roscommon, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Kane) McGoldrick. Sister Eileen entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Novitiate in Loughlynn, Ireland, June 11, 1942. After pronouncing her first vows in Loughlynn Dec. 15, 1944, she was sent in mission to the United States, Holy Family Community, North Providence. She pronounced her final vows, Dec. 15, 1947, in Holy Family Chapel, North Providence. Her ministry was that of a commissioner, one of our many Sisters who went all over the United States selling the handwork made in the workrooms, thus obtaining the funds to support missionary works in the United States as well as young girls employed in work rooms in overseas missions. This was a means inaugurated by Blessed Mary of the Passion, foundress, to raise the condition of women in those countries, giving them an occupation, and at the same time, cultivating in them their native sense of beauty. Sister Eileen’s cheerful, outgoing personality suited her for this ministry, which she fulfilled for many years, traveling throughout the United States. Beginning in 1976, she served as a religious education teacher in St. Jean the Baptist Parish in Pawtucket. She also visited the sick in their homes. From 1995-2004 her ministry was that of pastoral work at St. Francis Chapel. She served as a Eucharistic minister and also visited the sick and elderly in their homes. She was active in the charismatic prayer group at St. Augustine’s Church. Declining health necessitated her being sent to Queen of Peace Community, Fruit Hill, where her ministry continued to be that of prayer and suffering. In 2006 she was sent to St. Antoine’s Residence for 24-hour nursing care. She celebrated her 60th Jubilee in 2007.
She leaves her sister, Mary Brennan of Ireland, and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Thursday, May 1, from 4-8 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. in Holy Family Chapel, Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Chapel Tuesday, May 3, at 11 a.m. Funeral arrangements are by Russell J. Boyle and Son.
