Lions lead the pack in Lincoln Little League

LINCOLN - The J.H. Lynch & Sons Lions are the only team yet to taste defeat in Lincoln Little League. The Lions edged the Paralegal Resources Cardinals, 5-4, and beat the Fairlawn Golf Course Orioles, 8-2.

In the league's early part of the season, the hitters have been in control for most games with some high scoring affairs. That changed last week when the Turner Sales Hornets and the Douglas Lumber Bears got together in an old fashioned pitcher's duel.

Nick Lamoureaux gave up three hits over six innings as the Hornets nipped the Bears 2-1. Lamoureaux and Tyler Duquette of the Bears matched each other through the first four innings until Brian Janetti led off the fourth with a single, stole two bases and came home on Lamoureaux's infield single.

Luke Kelly led off the game with a bunt single for the Bears and was driven home by Peter Ciccerone for the Bear's run and that was matched when Janetti drove home Doug Harrison in the bottom of the first.

The entire game took one hour and five minutes and featured a grand total of eight hits and one walk.

In earlier action, the Subway of Lincoln Blue Jays defeated the Professional Security Tigers 9-3. Jeff Sheehan went the distance on the mound for the winners, fanning 11 and added a three-run double in the victory.

Alec Cronan launched a long three-run home run in the first inning to put the Jays up 3-0. Cody Foster added a two out single in the second inning to plate Austin Vaudry. Michael Brown continues to impress defensively with a spectacular web gem running catch in center field to end a three-run Tiger rally.

The Blue Jays also defeated the Bunge Oil Colts 18-7. After spotting the Colts four runs in the top of the first inning, the Jays erupted for 10 runs and never looked back. Jeff Sheehan was a hitting machine, cranking four hits and knocking in five runs, and Cronan belted a pair of hits, including his third homer of the young season.

Henry Sales added a pair of RBI singes while Cody Foster picked up the mound win with some solid middle relief pitching.

The Fairlawn Golf Course Orioles defeated the Zammarelli Law Office Cubs 18-13. The Orioles' Paul Roque, Chris Leclaire, Dan Sylvia had three hits each, and Robbie Lake added a pair. The Orioles dropped an 8-2 decision to the Douglas Lumber Bears. Jack Bacon and Chris Leclaire had two hits each for the Orioles.

For the Bears, Nathan Taylor and Sean Gonsalves had two hits each.

The Turner Sales Hornets won both of their games. Doug Harrison threw a complete game and Brian Janetti went three-for-three with three doubles, and Ben Allen deposited a two-run shot out of the park to snap a 2-2 tie as the Hornets stung the Bears, 4-2.

It was a fortuitous home run for Allen who was injured during pre-opening day parade horse play on Saturday morning, breaking his arm.

With their teammate in the emergency room, the Hornets rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the fifth to defeat the Professional Security Tigers 7-6 following Saturday's parade. Harrison hit a game-tying two-run triple in the fifth and Nick Lamoureaux doubled in the sixth and scored the winning run on two wild pitches.

Will Britt scored three runs, Ted Sullivan got his first hit and John Camara, his first major league RBI in the victory.

In other games, the J.H. Lynch and Sons Lions slipped past the Paralegal Resources Cardinals, 5-4; the Zammarelli Law Offices Cubs clawed the Bunge Oils Colts, 9-4; the Lincoln Candy Company Seals took down the Subway of Lincoln Blue Jays, 6-2; Seals nipped he Cardinals, 3-2; the Colts out scored the Hornets, 13-10; Tigers edged the Cubs, 7-6; Cardinals beat the Tigers, 9-5; Orioles and Colts battled to a 9-9 tie; Lions beat the Cubs, 6-4; and the Cardinals beat the Bears, 12-7.
