Report: Sale of PawSox is complete

PAWTUCKET – The sale of the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox franchise is complete, according to a report in The Boston Globe Sunday. Details of the sale are expected to be made public on Monday, according to sources cited by the paper.

Also Monday, city residents should find out whether the new owners plan to keep the PawSox in Pawtucket or whether they’ll look to move it somewhere else in Rhode Island or out of state. NBC 10 reported Sunday that the owners want to move the team to Providence.

The new ownership group includes some members of the Boston Red Sox ownership group, but they’ll have only a minority stake in the franchise. Those members will join local owners to purchase the team from Madeleine Mondor, wife of the late Ben Mondor. Ben Mondor ran the franchise until his death in 2010.

Pawtucket officials have said on several occasions that they plan to do everything they can to keep the PawSox in the city, including investing in infrastructure upgrades around the stadium.
