Explorer Riverboat Tours on the Blackstone River depart every Sunday through Oct. 20, from Central Falls Landing on Madeira Avenue, Central Falls, at 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m. A tour guide explains the ecology of the river and surrounding wetlands interspersed with stories about the people and history of the region. Adults $10, seniors and children $8. “Free Sundays” are the last Sunday of every month sponsored by Citizens Bank. Call 401-724-2200.

A kick-off event will begin fundraising and spreading awareness about the upcoming 100 anniversary of Millville, Mass. The event will include musical entertainment, children’s activities, raffles and a family scarecrow decorating contest. The rain date for the event is Sunday, Oct. 6.

More than 300 entries have been made into the 2014 Pawtucket Calendar contest. Mayor Don Grebien will announce winners during a public reception at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center.
