Ronald A. McKenna - Lincoln

Ronald A. McKenna, 75, of Manville, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at home peacefully surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Menard) McKenna. They were happily married for 53 years.

Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Arthur and Jeannette (Tetreault) McKenna. Ron graduated from Bryant College with a bachelor’s degree and then from the University of Rhode Island with a master’s degree. He started his career as an instructor at Vernon Court Junior College. Ron then worked as a school teacher for the Central Falls School Department for 25 years. He then worked for the Lincoln School Department as the first technology director. Ron also owned and operated Lincoln Computerized Services while teaching in the Central Falls School Department.

He was very active with the Cub Scouts serving as Cub Master, Pack 1, Manville. He later served as Scout Master, Troop 1, Manville, served as Boy Scouts of America Thundermist District Chairman and also received the BSA Silver Beaver Award. Ron served as the Manville Farm League Director and the Northern Lincoln PTO president. He was a former Lincoln town councilman and also served as president on the council. He served on the Lincoln Senior Center Construction board. The Manville Fire Department benefited from his involvement, serving as a volunteer firefighter and EMT-C, chairman of the 1991 Centennial Manville Fire Department Celebration, Fire District Tax collector, treasurer and Fire Warden; he was also the Albion Fire District Tax collector. Ron was dedicated to his church, served as a lector for Saint James Church, CCD director, and Saint James carnival chairman; St. John Vianney eucharistic minister and also was a member of the church Men’s Club.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael McKenna, Karen Roche, Brian McKenna, and Carolyn Enestvedt; his brother, Thomas McKenna; his grandchildren, Sara, Shannon, and Samantha McKenna, Alyssa, Kristen, and Erica Roche, Casey and Sean McKenna, and Colleen, Owen, Connor, and Molly Enestvedt; and his shih-tzu, Ellie.

His funeral will be held Monday, May 22, at 9 a.m. from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Saint James Cemetery, Manville. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
