NSHS’s Schmidt performs at All National Honor Ensemble

NORTH SMITHFIELD – During the 2016-2017 school year, along with other talented music students from around the country and overseas in military-based schools, Jamie Schmidt practiced and auditioned to gain a spot in the National Association for Music education All National Honor Choir.

Schmidt performed at the All National Honor Ensemble on Nov. 28 and 29 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Walt Disney World resort in Orlando, Fla.

Schmidt was recently accepted to Rhode Island All State as a tenor vocalist ranking 2nd, bass vocalist ranking 1st and on flute ranking first. During his time at Nationals, he auditioned along with 150 other basses for the one bass solo in a piece they were performing. He was the runner up for the solo.

Schmidt is a member of the North Smithfield High School band, chamber choir, men’s choir and jazz choir. He has served as the chorus student director for both the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years. Schmidt has been featured as a soloist in concerts as well as in local theater productions. He will also be participating the American Choral Directors Associations Eastern Division choir to be held in Pittsburgh on March 7-10.

Schmidt is one of five students who represented Rhode Island at the All National Honor Choir event.
