Anna DeAndrade – Fleming Island, Fla.

Anna DeAndrade, 82 of Fleming Island, Florida, and formerly of Cumberland, crossed over after a brief struggle with leukemia on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

Born on November 3, 1935, in Central Falls, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Olga (Chofay) Mona of Pawtucket, R.I., and John A. Mona of North Attleboro, Mass.

A graduate of Central Falls High School in 1954, she married her high school sweetheart Vincent DeAndrade in 1960. After marriage, she moved around the country with her active duty Navy husband to Memphis, Tenn., Westminster, Calif., and then finally settling in Cumberland. Anna spent most of her life as a homemaker raising her four children. She also worked in women’s retail at Cherry & Webb in Lincoln. In her later years, she enjoyed a second career as a certified nursing assistant at Mount St. Rita’s in Cumberland, where she finally retired in 2000.

A lifelong lover of reading, writing, movies, dancing, figure skating and musical theater, Anna could often be found enjoying many of these activities on any given day of the week or weekends. She will be remembered for being a great friend and confidant to those closest to her and those she worked with. She will also be remembered for her incredible memory where she could recall important dates going back decades.

She was preceded in death by her Mother Olga (Chofay) Mona of Central Falls, in 1981; her father, John A. Mona, of North Attleboro in 2005; her late ex-husband, Vincent DeAndrade, of Portsmouth, R.I., in 1984; her beloved Mother in-law, Fernanda (Gomes) DeAndrade, in 2013, and her father in-law, Alvaro DeAndrade, in 2001, both of Pawtucket, R.I.; and her beloved grandmother Anna Chofay, of Bellingham, Mass., in 1983.

Anna is survived by her four children, Kimberlee Rose of Warren, R.I., Scott DeAndrade, of Warwick, R.I., Lynne Boucher, of Sarasota, Fla., and Jay DeAndrade, of Fleming Island, Fla.; as well as seven grandchildren, Joshua, Benjamin, Cassandra, Edward III, Summer, Catherine and Jett.

A memorial mass will be held on Sunday, April 15, at noon, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1303 Mendon Road, Cumberland.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate either your time or monetarily to your local hospice or veterans charities.
