George Goudreau – Woonsocket

George Goudreau, 91, of Woonsocket, died Thursday, May 31, 2018, surrounded by his family at the Holiday in Manville. He was the loving husband of Simone G. (Mandeville) Goudreau. They were married on April 23, 1949 and celebrated 69 wonderful years together this spring.

Born in Central Falls, he was a son of the late Edward and Imelda (Fournier) Goudreau. He was raised in Seekonk and was a graduate of St. Raphael’s Academy in Pawtucket.

Mr. Goudreau was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He received the Victory Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal.

Mr. Goudreau was employed as a chief technician by RCA Corp, later General Electric, for more than 40 years before retiring in 1989.

George was a longtime communicant of Precious Blood Parish. Mr. and Mrs. Goudreau were married at Precious Blood and George was a parish volunteer and Eucharistic minister.

George was an active lifetime member of the Woonsocket Knights of Columbus Council #113, having served as Past Grand Knight, and was also a member the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree General Moylan Assembly. George was also a member of the American Legion Post 14 in Cumberland. He was a member of the Royal Travelers and enjoyed many trips throughout the country and all over the world. In his spare time he liked to go fishing and was an avid bowler.

George will be remembered as a devoted family man. His legacy is one of service to his country, church and community.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son George L. Goudreau and his wife, Ruth, of North Smithfield, a daughter Lynn Tarble and her husband, Douglas, of North Carolina, and three grandchildren Ryan Goudreau, Patrick Goudreau and Michael Tarble, and six great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Paul, Albert and David Goudreau, Claire Beauregard, Marie Trudell, Rita George and Bernadette Ribeiro and the late Richard Goudreau, Jeanne Paine and Theresa Richard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.

His funeral will be Saturday, June 9, at 9 a.m., from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at 10 a.m., in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham, Mass. Visiting hours are Friday, June 8, from 5 to 8 p.m.
