Margaret R. "Maggie" Philbin – Cumberland

Margaret R. "Maggie" Philbin (Hogue), 77, of Boardman Ave., Cumberland, passed away June 20, 2018, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Terrance J. Philbin for the past 53 years.

Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Rose (McCabe) Hogue. She was a lifelong Cumberland resident.

Maggie was a school teacher employed by the Cumberland School Department for 30 years where she influenced multiple generations throughout her 30 years of teaching in Cumberland, mostly at Ashton Elementary School, until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church, Cumberland, a member of the Blackstone Valley Retired Teachers Association, Ashton School Association, R.I. Educators Association, National Teachers Association and Catholics for Life.

Maggie truly enjoyed the beach and getting together with her lifelong friends, The Valley Girls, her classmates from Sacred Heart High School, and the ladies from Mt. Saint Rita. All of her friends were near and dear to her.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons Mark and Terrance; granddaughter, Autumn; sisters Louise and Rosemary, along with countless in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends. She was also preceded in death by her son, James, and her sister, Anne.

A celebration of Maggie's life will begin with calling hours on Thursday, June 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., and will continue on Friday, June 29, at 9 a.m., from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
