Lois E. (Mowry) Dandeneau – North Smithfield

Lois E. (Mowry) Dandeneau, 82, of North Smithfield, passed away surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Ovila Dandeneau for 52 years.

She leaves behind three children, daughters Cheryl Schatz and Doreen Knapp of Mapleville, and a son, Kenneth Dandeneau, of Sebring, Fla. She leaves five grandchildren: Joshua Schatz of West Greenwich, Melanie Gaucher of Mapleville, Kelly St Jean of Williamsburg, Va., Matthew Knapp of Milford, Mass., and Adam Schatz of Mapleville, and 11 cherished great-grandchildren.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Delmar and Rita (Cooney) Mowry. During her lifetime, Lois operated her own hair salon in Warwick for many years and later was employed by AT Cross for 10 years. One of her proudest accomplishments was initiating and managing the first AT Cross company store.

Always a leader and organizer, she established and was the Queen Mother of the Vivacious Red Hatters Chapter of Northern R.I. for many years, organizing many trips and events for over 100 members. She also was active in her apartment association at the Meadows in North Smithfield, where she orchestrated improvements, social activities and trips for the seniors.

A friend to all, Lois carried the nickname of “Hugs Lois” for her ability to reach out and touch people’s hearts and lives.

Calling hours will be held at Tucker-Quinn Funeral Home, 643 Putnam Pike, Smithfield, Monday, July 23, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her memorial service will be private.
