Christopher Borges – Cumberland

Christopher Borges, 54, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 30, 2018.

Born in Fall River, Mass., he was the son of Leonard F. Borges Sr. of Azores, Portugal, and the late Martha M. (Rezendes) Borges. Chris resided most of his life in Cumberland.

Chris was a career firefighter for the Cumberland Fire Department for more than 19 years, previous to that he served as a call firefighter and part-time firefighter for many years with the Cumberland Fire Department and the former Ashton Fire Department. He was a member of the Cumberland Firefighters Local 2722 of the I.A.F.F.

Chris enjoyed attending a local Friday night Cruise Night at the McDonalds on Mendon Road in Cumberland for many years. He had a passion for Dodge cars especially any of them that were equipped with a HEMI motor. He enjoyed going for rides in his Plymouth Barracuda. Chris also enjoyed drag racing his Plymouth Duster over the last several years.

He also enjoyed fishing, motorcycles and cherished his time with his friends and co-workers. Besides his father, he is survived by his brothers; Leonard F. Borges Jr., of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Chaz Borges and his wife, Judith Struglia, of North Attleboro, Mass; two nephews, Jarred Borges and Chase Borges, and one niece, Jacqueline Borges, along with many cousins.

Family and friends are invited to Chris's life celebration to be held Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, with visiting hours from 5 to 8 p.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 10 a.m., in St. Aidan-St. Patrick Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, R.I. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
