BRT announces fiddle classes

CUMBERLAND – Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., announces group fiddle classes including a beginner and a new teen class.

As part of their Heritage Arts Studio initiative, Blackstone River Theatre will offer a nine-week session of classes in seven levels of fiddle with instructor Cathy Clasper-Torch. Classes are held at the theater. For registration email russell@riverfolk.org or call 401-725-9272.

All fiddle classes are taught in a group setting and are geared toward adults except for a new class for continuing beginner teens and children age 11-and-up. The teen class will be held on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. starting Sept. 13.

A complete beginner adult class will be held on Tuesdays, at 5:30 p.m., starting Sept. 11. Five other levels will be offered and begin on Sept. 12, 13, and 14. For class descriptions visit www.riverfolk.org .

All students must bring their own fiddle, bow and music stand. Class fee is $135 for each student per nine-week session. Both playing by ear and sight reading will be included. Prepayment is necessary.

All fiddle classes are taught by instructor Cathy Clasper-Torch, a multi-instrumentalist whose primary focus is fiddle/violin, piano and erhu. She combines her early classical training with love of improvisation and music of all cultures. Clasper-Torch records and performs in the area with the Atwater-Donnelly Trio and The Gnomes.
