Dupont backs affordable housing

SMITHFIELD – Melanie DuPont, a Democrat for State Senate District 22, says she sees keeping housing affordable as a top priority.

“In my district, seniors and veterans can receive a tax freeze on their homes. I support this policy and will fight to preserve it,” said DuPont. “That tax freeze helped my parents keep our family home in Greenville. It’s helped many families keep their homes. That’s why I talk about affordable housing daily when campaigning. That’s why I was disappointed when the incumbent championed a bill to speed up the foreclosure process.”

“Wealthy developers and paid lobbyists will donate to senators, but I don’t want their money,” she added. “I want to fight for my district and for the people here. Community comes first. To me, that’s the job.”

A graduate of Smithfield Public Schools, DuPont also lists education and the environment as priorities. This is her first run for office.
