Sister Doris Marie Guilmette - North Providence

Sister Doris Marie Guilmette, 88, Franciscan Missionary of Mary, Ein Karim Community, died April 19, 2013, at St Antoine’s Residence in North Smithfield.

She was born in Lewiston Maine, Nov. 21, 1924, the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Pepin) Guilmette.

She entered the Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary September 15, 1943 in North Providence, R.I., where she pronounced her first vows March 19, 1946, and her final vows on March 19, 1949.

After pronouncing her First Vows, Sister Doris was missioned to McMahon Child Care Shelter in Harlem, N.Y., and then to St. Francis Sanatarium, now called St. Francis Hospital, which was for children suffering from Rheumatic Fever.

After pronouncing her final vows March 19, 1949, she was missioned to St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, N.Y., where her ministry was accounting in the hospital business office.

In the ensuing years, wherever Doris was sent in mission her ministry was in business administration and financial matters. Sister Doris was sent in mission to St. Michael’s Community in Arizona to the Navajo People where she taught religious education and helped in summer school and served as the community treasurer until 1972.

She is survived by her brother, Larry and his wife Phyllis Guilmette of Wethersfield, Conn., and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 24 with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. in Holy Family Chapel, 399 Fruit Hill Avenue, North Providence; Funeral Mass on Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. in the Holy Family Chapel. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Arrangements are by Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home.
