Moscarelli honored as F-G top teacher

GLOCESTER - Ponaganset High School teacher David Moscarelli has been named the Foster-Glocester Regional School District 2013 Teacher of the Year.

Moscarelli was recognized by his peers at a faculty meeting on June 17 and will be recognized by the School Committee at an upcoming meeting. Moscarelli serves as a science teacher and digital portfolio coordinator and has worked for the district for 21 years.

When announcing the honor, Supt. Michael Barnes said, "He emphasizes inquiry and active learning. He has taught his students to utilize technology as a tool to collect, organize, analyze, and present data. His focus is on concurrently developing deep content knowledge and higher order thinking skills."

Moscarelli was nominated by colleagues and was selected by the Teacher of the Year selection panel. Below are some of the quotes from their nomination letters:

"In the classroom, Dave is second to none. He exemplifies everything that I feel the perfect classroom teacher should be: completely committed to our school, well-prepared to teach all of his courses, passionate about his discipline, and has the ability to challenge his students both in and out of the classroom."

"Dave can hold a conversation about the richest of subjects and five seconds later joke with a student about a current event. He is down to earth and demonstrates to our students how a well educated and well rounded teacher should carry themselves in and out of the classroom."

"He is an incredible educational asset to Ponaganset High School who values the education of his students, his fellow faculty members and peers throughout the state of Rhode Island."
