Valley Breeze hosting a 2014 'Beatles' trip to London, Liverpool

I admit it. I'm a Beatles fan. A big fan. I still remember my disappointment when one of my brothers, in the frenzy of the "Meet the Beatles" album release in 1964, came home with a knock-off album by "The Liverpools" because that's all there was left in the store. We sent him back for a refund. I was 10.

I've always wanted to go to England, too, but never had the chance.

It's been 50 years now since The Beatles - John, Paul, George and Ringo - were taking over the music scene in Liverpool, and next year will be the 50th anniversary of the British Invasion that brought a swarm of musical artists to our shores. The Beatles, of course, led the charge with their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964. Music would never be the same again.

I began speaking with my friends at Conway Tours of Cumberland about setting up a "Beatles-themed" trip for us next spring. Now, I'm happy to report they've done a great job, and I hope you might want to join us next spring. By "us" I mean myself, my wife, Carol, Valley Breeze Editor-in-chief Marcia Green, and her husband, Alan. Beatles fans, all!

Here are some of the details:

April 28-May 4, 2014

* We'll fly from Boston to London, non-stop, on the luxurious Virgin Atlantic Airways. Transfers to and from Boston from this area, both ways, are included.

* We'll arrive and head to our boutique hotel, the Mercure Bloomsbury Hotel, in Russell Square and the Theatre District, where we will spend five nights. We'll tour the area and enjoy some time for rest and visiting on our own. Breakfasts are included each day.

* On Day 3, in London, we'll see all the sights, by motorcoach, hosted by a local guide. Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, and even a ride on the London Eye.

* On Day 4, we leave the city by luxury motorcoach for the County of Berkshire and a guided tour of Windsor Castle, residence of Queen Elizabeth II. In the afternoon, it's off to Hampton Court Palace.

* On Day 5, we all take the early train to Liverpool. Upon arrival, we'll enjoy a day-long "Beatles" tour with an expert guide. There's the Cavern Club where they were discovered, and a later "Magical Mystery Tour" by bus. The tour visits 30 sites we've all heard about, including Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, and many more. At day's end, it's back on the train for a restful ride back to London.

* On Day 6, we're back in the city for a half-day Beatles tour including Abbey Road, the Apple Records studio, and famous settings from some of their movies. A pub dinner will be included that night, as well as a fabulous theater performance (with the show to be determined.)

On Day 7, we're flying back home on Virgin Atlantic.

The cost for the trip is $2,999 per person double occupancy, and $3,749 for a single. (Sorry, but there are no "triple" rates on this trip.) These prices can only be guaranteed through Sept. 24, 2013. A $300 deposit is due upon reservation, with the remainder due by Dec. 20, 2013. After Sept. 24, the price may have to be adjusted.

Our trip is limited to 50 persons, so please act quickly.

Passports will be needed, and travelers may pay an optional $175 fee for cancellation insurance. Conway Tours has all the details.

All reservations must be made through Conway. Please phone them at 1-800-888-4661. Visit www.conwaytours.com .
