Violet shouldn't use Carcieri as a reference

In her recent Poli-Ticks column titled, "Taxpayers will pay dearly for child care unionization," Arlene Violet cites former Gov. Donald Carcieri as the great guardian of the public trust and the taxpayers' wallets.

Is this the same Carcieri that brought us 38 Studios? Is this the same Carcieri that brought us the infamous "Big Audit" that yielded no taxpayer savings but did produce some high-paying jobs for his former business cronies? Is this the same Carcieri who hijacked taxpayers' funds by appointing four former business associates as directors of administration when we already had one? Is this the same Carcieri that bloated the state bureaucracy by creating the totally unnecessary Executive Office of Health and Human Services? Is this the same Carcieri who began dismantling the pension plan with illegal changes that will probably be reversed?

Did I miss the great economic boom we experienced when this clueless politician neophyte sat in the executive office at the State House for eight long years? Where were the huge budget surpluses generated by Carcieri, the business genius? Did I miss those too?

If I were you, Ms. Violet, I would not cite Donald Carcieri as a reference for anything. It destroys any modicum of credibility that you may have.
