Robert E. Straight - Smithfield

Robert E. Straight, 84, of Greenville, a former vice president of Rhode Island Hospital Trust Bank, died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Shirley E. (Smith) Straight. They had been married for 58 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Edward and Isabel (Bridgford) Straight. He lived in Greenville for the last 53 years.

Mr. Straight received his bachelor’s degree from Bryant College, and completed postgraduate courses at the University of Chicago and the University of Oklahoma. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Straight was a member of Washington Lodge #3 F & A.M., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Providence, R.I., Shriner. He was a past director of Providence Court No. 7 Royal Order of Jesters; past treasurer of the Masonic Veterans Association; a life member of Providence Lodge #14 BPO Elks; and a member of the Greenville Volunteer Fire Company.

Besides his wife he is survived by his two daughters, Linda Marcello and her husband Arthur of Barrington and Judith Maccarone and her husband Raymond of Greenville. He also leaves his granddaughter, Jennifer Tassoni Short and her husband, Kevin; a grandson, Thomas Marcello; his step-grandchildren, Lisa Goldstein and her husband Dan, and Michael Maccarone and his wife Aja; and step great-grandchildren, Mira Maccarone and Sophia Goldstein. He was the brother of the late Geraldine Rougas.

A Holy Eucharist in his memory will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Episcopal Church at the intersection of Routes 44 and 116, Greenville. Burial will be at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, from 9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to either the Smithfield Fire Department or Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
