North Providence Tennis team loses to PCD

NORTH PROVIDENCE - The North Providence High School girls tennis team lost its only match last week, dropping a 5-2 decision to Providence Country Day in Division II action.

The loss dropped the Lady Cougars to 4-6 for the season with only two matches remaining, against once-beaten Narragansett and Cumberland.

At first singles, PCD's Emma Sheridan was too much for Daniella Chavez, taking a 6-0, 6-4 decision, and at second singles, PCD prevailed when Julia Ransom defeated Amy Zhang, 6-2, 6-4.

In the third singles match, Alanna Horton of PCD posted a 6-1, 7-5 win over Diana Perez, but at fourth singles, North Providence got its first point when Kelly Saccoccio defeated Sofia Mongeon, 6-1, 6-1.

The Lady Cougars first doubles team scored the other North Providence point as Michele Winter and Caitlyn Vallee beat Amalia Amburn and Olivia Musto, 6-2, 6-3.

In other doubles action, PCD won both with Jess Potter and Aquila Harper beating Nikita Moreira and Blessing Oyedokun, 6-3, 6-0, and Stephanie Spiegel and Belehinn Anderson taking a tight 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 win over Jamie Plouff and Michael Fornaro.
