After school and adult volunteer opportunities available at Landmark Medical

WOONSOCKET - Landmark Medical Center is accepting applications for both its After-School Volunteer Program and for adult volunteers.

The After-School program is open to students ages 14 or older who are friendly, compassionate and dependable. Students are placed based on interests, skills, and talents. Schedules vary, but a time commitment of two to four hours per week for a minimum of 45 total hours of service is required. Limited weekend positions are also available. Orientation and training are provided. Openings include:

Nursing Unit Assistants: Assist nursing unit secretaries and nursing staff with light clerical and patient support duties. Copy, assemble, and collate patient charts. Stock supplies, refill water pitchers, visiting with patients and assist staff as needed.

Dietary Assistants: Help set up caf?© items on tray line such as plating desserts; stocking beverages, and delivering late trays to patients as needed. Assisting with menu preparation and assisting patients with completing menu selections.

Hospital Greeter/Guide: Greet people at the door and help visitors and outpatients find their destination by escorting them. This is position for someone who enjoys helping others.

Clerical Assistants: Assist office staff with general clerical tasks such as filing, copying, collating, mailings, and/or answering phones. Students 18 and older can apply to be Emergency Department Assistants. Tasks include: escorting and transporting patients, making up clean stretchers, stocking rooms, running errands and other duties. The position is appropriate for pre-med or nursing students, or those interested in similar healthcare careers.

* The hospital is also accepting applications for adult volunteers at both the Cass Avenue location and at its sister facility, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island. Schedules vary, but a time commitment of two to four hours per week for a minimum of 45 total hours is required.

Openings include:

Hospital Greeters: Greet visitors and patients in our hospital lobby providing directions or an escort when needed. Four hour shifts available mornings, afternoons and early evenings.

Information Desk Volunteers: Here you would assist the hospital by directing visitors and outpatients to services, provide information, answer questions, as well as sort and deliver patient mail throughout the hospital. The facility is seeking a Thursday afternoon volunteer.

Patient Hospitality Cart Volunteers: Bring some extra compassion and comfort to those recovering from an illness or surgery by delivering morning beverages to patients, their families and visitors with our coffee cart. Training is provided and shifts are weekday mornings.

Dispatch Assistants: Assist hospital staff by delivering supplies and equipment throughout the hospital. Four hour shift available from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays. This opportunity is ideal for those who are outgoing, work well independently and like to keep physically active.

Clerical Assistants: Assist staff with light clerical, mailing and copying projects in various departments throughout the hospital.
