Harry O. Bentley - Cumberland

Harry O. Bentley, 87, of Red Gate Road died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of the late Dorothy F. (Bassett) Bentley.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Harry F. and Florence (Lawson) Bentley, he had lived in Cumberland for most of his life. Mr. Bentley was a mechanical engineer for Corning Fiberglas, St. Regis Paper Company and Sheldahl before he and his son David founded Bentley Automation 29 years ago in Cumberland.

Harry was a long-time member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, serving at the Holiday Retirement Home in Manville. He also served as Senior Warden of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, sang in the choir and volunteered for its Mobile Loaves and Fishes. He also volunteered at St. George’s Soup Kitchen in Central Falls.

He was a member of the Community-Ites of Cumberland. He was a radio mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He had enjoyed playing in adult basketball league for many years. A true family man, he enjoyed vacationing with his family at Lake Winnipesaukee.

Harry is survived by two daughters, Ruth L. Bentley of Pasadena, Calif., and Dale F. Bentley of Cumberland; two sons, William J. Bentley of North Attleboro, Mass., and David F. Bentley of Cumberland; seven grandchildren, William J. Bentley, Jr., Lauren M. Bentley, Kevin J. Bentley, Katelyn V. Bentley, Jason D. Bentley, Ethan J. Bentley and Dylan Roche; two great-grandchildren, Tomas B. Bentley and Korinna L. Bentley; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Harry J. Bentley and the grandfather of the late Brian J. Bentley.

His Memorial Service will be held SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9 at 10 A.M. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland. Burial will be in Arnold Mills Cemetery,
