Woman arrested for prostituting Pawtucket teen

PAWTUCKET – Police have arrested Providence woman Nicole Ferreira, 21, for allegedly sex trafficking a 14-year-old runaway teenage girl from Pawtucket. Ferreira, as the girl’s “madam,” is accused of arranging for her to have sex with men some 40 to 50 times in a little more than a month.

A missing person report was filed with the Pawtucket Police Department in late August, according to a news release from the department. In October investigators were provided with information that the missing 14-year-old’s image had been posted on an internet site that is commonly used for activities related to prostitution.

Detectives decided to call a phone number associated with the missing girl’s image on the site. Detectives agreed to meet with the female who answered the phone, Ferreira. They met with Ferreira and immediately identified themselves as police officers. Investigators informed Ferreira that they were only concerned with locating the missing girl “and removing her from destructive and unsafe activity.” Detectives were able to obtain an address in Cranston where the missing girl could be located.

Pawtucket and Cranston investigators responded to 125 Westwood Ave. in Cranston where they located the missing girl. She was subsequently reunited with her family.

With the assistance of Officer Long of the Cranston Police Department, detectives were able to develop additional information and facts that indicated the missing girl was being trafficked for sexual purposes, and that Ferreira was the person responsible for the crime. Evidence suggested Ferreira “knowingly recruited, employed, transported and persuaded the 14-year-old girl to perform commercial sex acts,” according to police.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Ferreira and she was arrested on Nov. 13 in Providence with the assistance of the Providence Police Department. Shewas brought to District Court and was charged with sex trafficking of a minor, pandering/permitting prostitution, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Bail was set at $50,000 with surety.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to police. Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the Pawtucket Police Department at 401-727-9100 and ask for Detective Rosciti at ext. 737 or Detective Silva at ext. 760.

“The cooperation exhibited by our law enforcement partners in other communities was instrumental in bringing an individual to justice who was preying upon the vulnerability of a young person,” said Pawtucket police in a statement.
