Massage Therapy celebrates 55 years

PROVIDENCE - The American Massage Therapy Association, Rhode Island Chapter, celebrated its 55th anniversary at an event at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Warwick. Guest speaker Judith Berger talked about working with trauma victims and varying forms of trauma.

The following awards were presented.

National Humanitarian Award: Michaele Colizza

Rhode Island Chapter Humanitarian Award: Pat Bachus and Joan Tarter-Van Hees

Give Chapters a Hand Awards: Debbie Kilty, newsletter; Regina Cobb and Frank Rapone, community events; Karen Small and Kenji Omori, communications.

With 450 members, the chapter's Sports Massage Team recently took part in "Operation Stand Down for Veterans." This is the eighth year members have volunteered to give free massages to veterans during this weekend. Members also volunteer at Special Olympics events and numerous fund-raising road races, and this year, they provided services to the Phoenix Society for burn survivors.
