OCYL accepting registration for Early Childhood Literacy and Number Sense

CUMBERLAND - The Office of Children Youth and Learning is accepting registrations for its Early Childhood Literacy and Number Sense Math winter-spring 2014 session.

Early Childhood Literacy: 36 classes for children 3-5. Children will learn literacy skills to get readers and nonreaders engaged in reading and writing through songs and Rhode Island State aligned activities. Parents can choose 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. Cost for Cumberland residents is $360, and $720 for non-residents.

Number Sense: 18 classes for children 3-5. Children will learn math concepts through songs and hands-on activities. The class is offered on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.¬?Cost for Cumberland residents is $180 and $360 for non-residents. Classes begin the week of Jan. 13 and fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be at least 3 years old on the first day of class, able to use the bathroom independently and be able to separate easily from parents/caregivers. Payment is due Dec. 20. OCYL programs are open to all in surrounding communities and free for Cumberland families whose children receive free/reduced lunch. In addition, financial aid is available on a sliding scale to Cumberland children who qualify.
