Norman J. Derosier - Smithfield

Norman J. Derosier, 83, a lifelong Smithfield resident, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Theresa H. (Lagasse) Derosier for nearly 62 years.

Born in North Providence, he was a son of the late Frank and Blanche (LaVoie) Derosier. Mr. Derosier enlisted in the Army in 1948 and was a combat veteran of the Korean War from 1950-1951.

He was a member of the Red Dragon 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion; a member of Chapter 3 Korean War Veterans Association; was one of the original members of the Smithfield Veterans Memorial; was inducted into the Smithfield Heritage Hall of Fame in 2009; and was an active member of the Smithfield Senior Center since it opened. He was a laborer for the former Durastone Corp., for 35 years before retiring in 1989.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Theresa A. (Derosier) Cavanagh and her husband Peter of Clayville, Norman J. Derosier Jr. and his wife Lynn (Turner) of North Providence, Donald R. Derosier and his wife Joanne (Bell) of Glocester and Dwayne E. Derosier and his wife Lori (Jenkins) of North Scituate. He was the brother of Claire Klock of Smithfield and the late Leo Derosier, Doris Mimande and Rita Cadonau. He was the loving grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 17.

His funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at 9 a.m. from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Route 44), Greenville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Smithfield. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Visitation is Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
