Walter J. Matisewski Sr. - Cumberland

Walter J. Matisewski Sr., 94, formerly of Garvin Street, passed away Monday, Jan. 13 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Natalie (Szeliga) Matisewski.

Born in Clinton, Mass., he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary (Golash) Matisewski. He resided in Cumberland for most of his life.

Mr. Matisewski was employed as a steel worker for the Newman Crosby Company for over 40 years until his retirement.

Walter was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Broad Street, Cumberland. He was a member of the Royal Travelers, bowled with many senior groups, loved gardening and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

He leaves his children, Denise Matisewski of North Providence, Janice Standring of Attleboro, Walter Matisewski Jr. of Cranston; and six grandchildren, Amy Robinson, Matthew Standring, Andrew Standring, Justin Matisewski, Jackyn Boichat and Jenna Matisewski. He was the longtime companion of Claire Monarch.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday at 10 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in St. Patrick Church, Broad Street, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held Friday from 4 to 8 P.M.
