College Goal R.I. events announced

PROVIDENCE - College Goal Rhode Island events will be held at East Providence High School, 2000 Pawtucket Ave., Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m.; Rhode Island College, 60 Mount Pleasant Ave., Providence, on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 10 a.m.; and Central Falls High School, 24 Summer St., Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 5 p.m.

College Goal Rhode Island is a statewide charitable program that provides free information and assistance to families applying for college financial aid. At College Goal Rhode Island, financial aid professionals assist college-bound students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form is required for students seeking federal financial aid, including grants and loans, at educational institutions nationwide. It is also the form Rhode Island residents complete to determine eligibility for Rhode Island state grant programs.

Financial aid professionals will be available to provide hands-on assistance, offering line-by-line explanation of the FAFSA as well as guidance on the financial aid process and application deadlines.

It is recommended that dependent students bring their parents or legal guardians with them to the session as well as the parent's completed 2013 federal tax return (if completed), 2013 W-2 forms and all other 2013 income and benefits information. In addition, if students worked during 2013, they should bring their completed 2013 federal tax return and any other income information. Students 24 years or older may attend alone and bring their own completed 2013 tax forms or other 2013 income and benefits information.
