William P. Meehan Jr. - Cumberland

William P. Meehan Jr., of Sagamore Beach, Mass., and Lubec, Maine, formerly of Cumberland, R.I., died peacefully at home on Feb. 9th.

He was born on Dec. 8th, 1940, the son of the late William P. Meehan and the late Beatrice (Young) Meehan. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Dianna C. (Buldrighini) Meehan.

In his early years he served with the Army National Guard 118th Combat Engineer Battalion and the 115th Military Police Company (1959-1965). He received his Associates Degree from Bryant College and a Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement from Salve Regina University. He served on the Cumberland Police Department from 1964 to 1980.

He then founded and operated Meehan Armored, Inc., from 1980 to 1997. From 1999 to the present, he and his wife founded and thoroughly enjoyed operating The Betsy Ross Lodging and The Atlantic House Coffee & Deli Shop in Lubec, Maine.

He was founder and member of the first Lubec Harvard Club. He was a member of the American Society for Industrial Security; Cumberland F.O.P. Lodge #14; Cumberland Business Men's Association; The Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce; and the Knights of the Irish Kings.

He leaves behind three sisters, Marjorie Blevio of Bradenton, Fla., Mildred Collamati of North Smithfield, R.I., and Paula Meehan of Plymouth, Mass.; four children, a son William P. Meehan III of Sagamore Beach, Mass. and three daughters, Deborah Carol Renaud (husband David) of North Kingstown, R.I., Marjorie Ann Harnedy (husband Frank) of Little Compton, R.I., and Dawn Irene Alden ( husband Ernie) of West Wareham, Mass.; and seven grandchildren who will miss him dearly, David Jr., Kaitlynn, Meghan, Frankie, Nate, Connor and Emmaline.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday at 10 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M.
