City officials to dedicate plaza in recognition of John Calista

PAWTUCKET - Mayor Donald Grebien and members of the City Council and Pawtucket Planning Commission will join with family and friends of John Q. Calista to dedicate the sidewalk plaza in front of 175 Main Street in recognition of Calista's many contributions to city.

The ceremony will be held next Tuesday, May 20, at 5:30 p.m. in front of the downtown building that also houses the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center

Calista, who died last year, served for 21 years as Pawtucket's first redevelopment director from 1962 to 1983. Following his tenure as director, he served as a city councilor from 1986 to 1993. More recently, he served on the Pawtucket City Planning Commission from 1996 to 2011.
