CYSA Thunder stays unbeaten

CUMBERLAND - The Cumberland Youth Soccer Association U-12 girls Thunder team needed two wins this past weekend to secure their place in the Superliga U-12 Girls Rhody Division championship game this upcoming Saturday.

They got them.

On Friday night, the Thunder used a Madison Durkin goal and some key saves by Riley Dion to give the Warwick Fire Fighters their first loss of the season in a 1-0 defensive struggle.

On Saturday afternoon, Smithfield saw the Thunder erupt for five goals, scored by Bethany Votta, Paige Labbe, Haley Griggs, 2, and Olivia Badeau, to take a 5-1 win.

In addition to last weekend's goal scorers, the Thunder are also powered by Jordan Kaplan, Ashley Puello, Allison Grieve, Victoria Jakubiak, Angela Ferreira, Maeve Byrne, Madison Goldstein and Adah Anderson.

The Thunder have displayed a stingy defense throughout the season, allowing only four goals in eight games. The wins moved their record to a perfect 8-0 in the spring outdoor season.

The Thunder now have a chance to cap off an incredible turn-around year, which they started out by dropping 13 of their first 14 games, but have since won 10 and tied three in their last 13 regular season games.

"I love the girls' tenacity and fortitude," said head coach Curtiss Grieve.
