FC Napoli girls take state title

The FC Napoli Girls U-15 Division 2 Premier Soccer team is headed to Pennsylvania to represent Massachusetts after winning the state title.

FC Napoli won the first game of the U.S. Youth Soccer Association President's Cup sponsored by the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association against the FC Boston Azzurri team, 5-1. The team played the final game against the Division 1 Pioneer Valley Storm in Lancaster, Mass., and won in overtime.

FC Napoli worked very well together and ball possession was maintained in the other team's territory for much of the game. After two 40-minute halves, the score was still 0-0, forcing the teams to go into overtime to determine a winner. Overtime play started off with a quick penalty against FC Napoli that resulted in a goal for the Storm.

Fortunately for FC Napoli, they quickly answered back with a break-away run by Crystal Zaimi, who scored and tied the game. Time ran out, forcing the teams to square off in a penalty kick showdown.

The FC Napoli goalie, Emma Trudeau, stepped in net first and when all was said and done, the team needed to score four goals because she stopped three of the five shots she faced.

The team won the game and the title to represent Massachusetts and the Mass. Youth Soccer Association Girls Under-15 level at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region 1 Association Championship games in Pennsylvania.

The team will travel to Slippery Rock, Pa., and compete against other Eastern Regional Youth Soccer Associations from Maine to Virginia for the opportunity to win the Region 1 title and represent the region at the U.S. Youth Soccer Nationals in South Carolina in July.
