Sen. O'Neill announces re-election bid on Monday

LINCOLN - State Sen. Ed O'Neill, who represents Lincoln, North Providence and North Smithfield, says he will announce plans to run for re-election at a reception in his honor at Spicoli's in Albion on Monday, June 9, at 6 p.m.

O'Neill is a member of the Senate Finance and Education Committees and secretary of the Government Oversight committee.

He is also co-chairman of the joint committee on Blended Learning and vice chairman of the joint committee on improving opportunities for those with autism.

O'Neill says he continues to be "a champion of the middle class" and has been a supporter of ethics reform and ending the master lever. He is a co-sponsor of both bills in the Senate. His hit-and-run bill passed the Senate last week. "This is a major piece of legislation aimed at providing sharply increased penalties for leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury or death resulting," he noted.

Recent initiatives include a push to reduce parking fees at state beaches and exposing "the gross overpayments for parking services to an out-of-state vendor under the direction of DEM."

O'Neill said it "is an honor and a privilege to serve the voters of the 17th District" and he "will continue to work hard to protect the interests of his constituents and commits to remain true to his core values of integrity, competence and ethics."
