Playoffs beginning in NPWLL

NORTH PROVIDENCE - Playoffs to determine the 2014 North Providence West Little League championship are scheduled to begin this weekend.

Zammarelli Law took the regular season championship, posting a 15-3 record. They were followed by Christiansen's Fine Milk, Barone Orthodontics and FOP Lodge 13, all 10-8; Mayor Charles Lombardi, 8-10, and Councilman Feola, 1-17.

During action last week, Cesar Irizarry hit his first home run, a three-run bomb over the center field fence but it wasn't enough as Barone beat Zammarelli 11-5 behind the strong pitching of Ryan O'Connell.

John Foley hit his first home run, a two-run shot over the center field fence in FOP's 10-0 win over Councilman Feola.

Irizarry, Nicholas Domenici, Jeremy Gervais and Ben Rastelli of Zammarelli, combined to throw a one-hitter in a close 3-1 win over Christiansen's Fine Milk.

Evan Tobin needed only 71 pitches to throw a complete game, striking out seven in FOP's 7-1 win over Zammarelli.

Mayor Charles Lombardi defeated Councilman Feola, 7-3.

Domenic Pontarelli pitched five strong innings in Barone's 12-2 win over FOP, and Christiansen's downed Mayor Lombardi, 12-4.
