Board of Canvassers reminds residents of important election dates

PAWTUCKET - The Pawtucket Board of Canvassers is reminding residents and voters of important election deadlines coming up in August. The last day to register to vote in the Sept. 9 primary is Aug. 10. The Pawtucket Board of Canvassers is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday through Friday.

The board will have several voter registration drives leading up to the deadline. Drives will be held Aug. 2-3 at the Dogapalooza event in Slater Park. A member of the board will also be at the Blackstone Valley Visitor Center, 175 Main St., on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and again on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If voters have changed their address since the last election in 2012, a new registration card must be filled out with the correct address.

Another important deadline for voters is Aug. 19, the last date to request an absentee ballot for the Sept. 9 primary. Requests for absentee ballot forms may be picked up at the Board of Canvassers at City Hall or at the registration drives. Residents can also download a form at www.sos.ri.gov by clicking on the elections tab.
