Tobon pledges to create jobs

PAWTUCKET - Democratic candidate for representative in House District 58 Carlos Tobon is pledging to create jobs in Pawtucket by developing the city's vacant mill buildings into spaces for business.

"Pawtucket has an incredible opportunity with these mill buildings to put people back to work and attract new businesses," said Tobon in a release. "Through the responsible use of historic tax credits and private investment, we could turn these buildings into a beehive of business that would be the envy of the entire state."

Tobon said that Rhode Island can't afford to be the least friendly state for business anymore.

"At the Statehouse, I will make sure Pawtucket leads the way in bringing economic recovery to Rhode Island," he said. "We have people who want to work, and places for them to work. Let's put them back on the job."

Tobon calls himself a Pawtucket community activist and entrepreneur. He is a reserve petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard, and serves on the boards of the Pawtucket Business Development Corporation and Books are Wings, as well as on the advisory council of the United Way of Rhode Island.

House District 58 includes the neighborhoods of Woodlawn and Fairlawn.
