Carlo Mencucci Sr. - North Smithfield

Carlo Mencucci Sr., 89, of East Old Greenville Road, North Smithfield, died December 19, 2014, in St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was the husband of the late Mary (Urrico) Mencucci.

Born in Fano, Italy, he was the son of the late Luigi and Guila (Mariani) Mencucci. He came to this country as a boy of 8 years with his mother.

A World War II Navy veteran, Carlo was drafted out of high school and took part in the Normandy invasion, landing on Utah Beach. He was part of U.S. Naval Advanced Base Number 12 as a Signalman.

Mr. Mencucci worked 30 years as an accountant for the state of Rhode Island. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Woonsocket, and was on its finance committee.

He is survived by a son, Carlo Mencucci, Jr. and his wife Betty of Burrillville; four daughters, Mary Ann Boucher and her husband Denis of Chepachet, Eleanor Vanhouwe and her husband Brian of North Smithfield, Kristine Cote and her husband Edward of North Attleboro, Mass., and Frances Marshall and her husband Guy of North Smithfield; a brother, Angelo Mencucci and his wife Louise of Woonsocket; eight grandchildren, Derek Boucher, Julia Grist, Kristin Spirdione and Jillian Vanhouwe, Mariesa, Samantha and Matthew Cote and Scott Gould; and two great-grandchildren, Angelina and Jackson Grist.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec 27 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Calling hours are omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket.
