Bruce J. Santa Anna - North Smithfield

Bruce J. Santa Anna, 61, of Black Plain Road, died February 23, 2015, in Rhode Island Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia Lopes. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of Manuel and Eugenia (Gloria) Santa Anna.

He worked 25 years as a resident engineer for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. Bruce served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Wallum Lake Rod and Gun Club; served on the North Smithfield Planning Board as a member and chairperson; and was an avid fly fisherman and hunter. He also loved his John Wayne movies, country music, and loved to read and solve crossword and Sudoku puzzles. Bruce was quite a history buff as well.

Besides his parents and wife, he is survived by his stepson, Sean Reilly and his wife Aimee of Millbury, Mass.; three siblings, Gloria Santa Anna of Northampton, Mass., Nzinga Misgana (Linda Santa Anna) of Pawtucket and John Santa Anna of Florida; two grandchildren, Mackenzie and Liam Reilly, who were his pride and joy; two nephews, Ajahne and Ammanuel Santa Anna; and his faithful hunting dog companion, Buck.

His funeral will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 8:30 A.M. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 So. Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in Sacred Heart Church, Second Avenue, Woonsocket. Calling hours are Friday from 4 -7 P.M.
