New storage center opens in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND - For people and businesses who couldn't get any spring cleaning done but still need to move their stuff, the brand-new Storage Space USA Self Storage might have an answer.

The 50,000 square-foot facility opened April 1 on 197 Dexter St. in Cumberland and currently offers a full range of unit sizes, with 350 units in total - 200 of which are climate-controlled. The office is open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and gate hours at the facility are 6 a.m.-11 p.m., seven days a week.

Owner Asif Khan said having a location near the border of Massachusetts and Rhode Island is an advantage that is likely to lead to a larger customer base.

The building was formerly owned and operated by the Samuels Steel Company.

The facility, said Khan, is kept clean and pest-free behind the security features of coded electronic entry, motion detectors for each unit, and facility-wide video surveillance. The center also sells boxes, locks and has packing and moving supplies.

In addition to the current storage, Khan said he is planning to expand the amount of storage by adding 350 drive-up units by the beginning of next year.

Interested customers can call 855-440-1211 or visit to rent or reserve a unit and pay storage bills online.
