Doris Mae Palmer - Cumberland

Doris Mae (Foster) Palmer, 91, a life-long resident of Cumberland, was embraced in the arms of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.

She was born December 21, 1924 in Providence, R.I. to the late Joseph A. and Edith L. (Howard) Foster. She attended Community School and Cumberland High School, followed by Rhode Island State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 1947.

Doris is survived by her son Daniel F. Palmer (Marge) of Cologne, Minn.; son Thomas A. Palmer of Marion, I.L.., daughter Karen M. Anderson (Robert) of Crystal River, Fla.; and son Neal H. Palmer (Lynn) of Stoneham, Mass. She also leaves four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a niece. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Albert E. Palmer, and her brother, Howard C. Foster.

Doris was a faithful member of Arnold Mills United Methodist Church since 1939. She joined Cumberland Grange No. 2 in 1942, and was an active member until it disbanded in 1995. She had been a member of Primrose Grange No. 9 since 1995. She was a founding member of the Arnold Mills Community-Ites. Doris was a loving and devoted wife and mother who found the time to volunteer at many church events, hold office in the Grange, be a leader in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, participate in many Arnold Mills 4th of July Parades and serve on the Arnold Mills Cemetery Association board. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, various crafts and bowling.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 27, from 1-2 p.m., immediately followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, 690 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland. Inurnment will take place in Arnold Mills Cemetery after the church service.
