Yoga for Seniors being offered this fall at Arnold Mills Community House

CUMBERLAND – A Yoga for Seniors class begins on Monday, Oct. 24, at the Arnold Mills Community House.

This is a free, six-week program for those ages 55 and older.

It’s offered by AMCH, says trustee Carrie Mitzel, as one way of fulfilling the mission of the community house to give back to the Cumberland community.

Said Mitzel, “Margaret Stearns, who so generously bought and donated the AMCH in 1949, did so with the intention that it would be used as a gathering place for organizations and groups that provided educational and social support for local residents.

“It is the hope of the board of trustees that offering a yoga class to our seniors will contribute to their overall health and sense of well-being.”

The instructor for the class is Laurel Marsh, a 200-hour certified yoga instructor.

Involved with yoga since 2006, Marsh has continued her education in many workshops and teacher-training sessions in restorative yoga, chair yoga, and mindfulness meditation at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

In addition, Marsh is Reiki 1 certified and has experience in conducting gentle, Ninyasa, power, and restorative classes to a wide variety of participants.

She says she believes that through thoughtful and compassionate instruction, her students can become more sensitive to their experience and more respectful of what their bodies are telling them.

Marsh holds a bachelor’s degree in art and art history and also enjoys traveling, playing and writing music and has toured nationally and internationally with her past bands.

The class begins Monday, Oct. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the Arnold Mills Community House, 75 Hillside Road, Cumberland.
