Couple robs Dunkin' Donuts; man attacks worker

CENTRAL FALLS – A local man and woman were arrested after allegedly robbing the Dunkin' Donuts at 541 Broad St., next to Central Falls City Hall. Wayne Altman, 30, of Pawtucket and Jennefer Gomes, 31, of Bristol, are facing robbery charges.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, at around 9 p.m. Central Falls police responded to the store for reports of a robbery that had just occurred. The two clerks gave the responding officers a description for a male and female who had robbed the store and fled.

The clerks stated that the two suspects entered the store and the female appeared to have her hand in the pocket of her sweatshirt and was pushing the material outward, pretending to have a firearm. She then jumped over the counter and was attempting to grab two bank bags of U.S. currency that were behind the counter area.

The male clerk attempted to stop her and the male suspect jumped over the counter and struck him repeatedly with a closed fist in the head. The female grabbed two bank bags that were under the counter that contained an undetermined amount of cash. The two suspects then fled the area on foot.

Sergeant Nichole Rave was searching the area and noted a male and female running west on Summit Street. The two subjects, as soon as they saw the marked police cruiser, stopped running and continued to walk. The couple matched the description of the robbery suspects. Rave then ordered both subjects to stop and place their hands on a fence area and they immediately complied.

The two subjects were then positively identified as Altman and Gomes. They were arrested and transported to the station for processing. They were both held overnight at police headquarters and transported to the Sixth District Court of Providence for arraignment Wednesday morning.

Altman and Gomes were both charged with first-degree robbery and conspiracy. Though they were given bail of $40,000 with surety on the new charges, they were ordered held as Superior Court violators.
