Fans of Hose Company No. 6 have five months to save it

PAWTUCKET – City residents who want to see the Hose Company No. 6 building on Central Avenue protected from the wrecking ball won a minor victory last week when the Historic District Commission granted a six-month demolition delay.

Since the delay is from the date of an application submission, there are now five months left for fans of the former firehouse and restaurant to come up with some kind of solution for saving it.

Almost 50 residents turned out for last week’s meeting, nearly all opposed to a plan to tear down the building and replace it with a new Family Dollar store. Attorney Mike Horan said the building needs about $300,000 of work.
