Joseph D. Antunes – Cumberland

Joseph D. Antunes, 95, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, in the V.A. Regional Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Patricia (Santos) Silva-Antunes and the late Mary (Freitas) Antunes.

Born in Cumberland, the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Damas) Antunes, he spent his youth in Portugal. He returned to the United States as an adolescent and lived in New Haven, Conn. After serving his country, he came home to Cumberland, where he lived for the remainder of his life.

He was a WWII, U.S. Army veteran serving in the European Theatre. He was a member of the UAW Local 23.

He was employed for more than 27 years at General Motors until his retirement in 1986, and formerly was employed by Campanella & Cardi Company and the Sales Bleachery for many years.

Beside his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Rosanne Antunes Neri of Lincoln and Aurora Pincince (Rene) of Bedford, N.H.; three sons, Richard A. Antunes (Sharon) of Riverside, Michael Antunes of Cumberland and Daniel Antunes (Judy) of Evansville, Ind.; two stepsons, Anthony J. Silva (Linda) and Philip M. Silva (Dori), both of Cumberland; one stepdaughter, Suzanne P. Tellier (Paul), of Cumberland; 16 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Americo and Ricky Antunes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1 Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will be private.
