Winifred Hicks – Cumberland

Winifred (Weber) Hicks, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Villages on the Isles in Venice, Fla. She was the beloved wife of Edward G. Hicks. They had been married for 61 years.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late William and Harriett (Kreiner) Weber. She was a resident of Venice, Fla,, for 15 years but previously was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

Educated in Detroit, Mich., and Grosse Pointe by Madames of the Sacred Heart, Winnie graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, Mass. (now part of Boston College). Her main occupation was raising her seven children. She also enjoyed tennis, golf, croquet and spending time with her children and grandchildren. But those who love her most will always remember her optimism and positivity.

She leaves seven children, Kevin Hicks (the late Toni Mark) of Riverside, Ill., Brian Hicks (Debbie) of Cheshire, Mass., Karen Labovites (Matthew) of Holden, Mass,, Colleen Lynch (Kevin) of Bradenton, Fla., Sheila Leonard (Donald) of Cumberland, Dennis Hicks (Amy) of Cumberland, and Sean Hicks (Angela) of Trophy Club, Texas; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Sister Madeline Sophie Weber of Monroe, Mich., Mary Frances Benz (Edward) of Grosse Pointe, Mich., and the late George Weber.
